Rides for Seniors
Available to seniors in the area of St. James – Assiniboia who reside in their own home or apartment, are unable to access other forms of transportation safely, can walk independently (canes and walkers are acceptable), have completed a registration form, and can communicate independently with the driver. The cost is $8.00 round trip in the area and a larger donation ranging up to $19 round trip for destinations to places such as St. Boniface Hospital, Medical Arts etc This is not an escort service and the driver will drop off client at appointment and arrange a time to pick up. Rides are given for medical appointments (priority), banking, shopping, social activities. All rides are dependent on the availability of drivers Monday to Friday 9 am – 4 pm.
To receive an Information package which includes a registration form and details about our program call 987-8850 ext 1 and leave a message. Bookings for rides are taken Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9 am – 12 noon by calling the above number. All bookings and cancellations for rides are taken through the office and a person must be registered to receive this service.
We are always looking for new drivers who can do one or two rides a week or as needed. Contact Adele at 987-8850 ext 3 or via email for an application form and information.
Home Maintenance Referral Program
Available to persons 55+ residing in the area of St. James-Assiniboia to provide reliable service providers in order to increase independence and quality of life. Referrals to handymen, painters, yard maintenance, gardening at reasonable costs when service providers are available. Costs per hour range from $20 - $30 per hour or as negotiated between client and service provider. Estimates are always given for projects. All service providers are referenced and follow up calls are made by the Support Services office All providers follow a procedure as set out in policy and procedures of the St. James-Assiniboia 55+ Centre.

E.R.I.K. (Emergency Response Information Kit)
Emergency Response Information Kits are available at the centre at no charge. Income tax receipts are given for donations of $10 or more.
Community Resources
Referrals to in home services such as lawyers, dental, hairdresser, foot care to help you remain independent and improve your quality of life. All negotiations for service are made between client and provider.

Presentations

In March an Income Tax Clinic is offered at the centre in partnership with Age & Opportunity. There is no charge for the clinic conducted by the Certified General Accountants of Manitoba and registration occurs after February 1 by calling 987-8850 (A & O). Details will appear in the March/April newsletter regarding maximum income levels.
